What About Weight Gain?

Smoking cigarettes causes dehydration. When you quit smoking your body naturally rehydrates, which can result in a gain of around 1–2 kilograms. This is not fat or water retention, but the rehydration of all your individual cells. This is what we consider a healthy weight increase and most people look better for it. Less drawn, more vital.

A concern about weight gain is that when you quit smoking you will turn to sweet things. Believe it or not, your cigarettes are cured in sugar water and they actually contain between 8–18% sugar. This can result in shaking hands when people quit cigarettes – they are experiencing low blood sugar.

The best advice available is to try to replace your sugar craving with a natural source of sugar such as fruit.

The goal of our service is not only to interact with your subconscious mind to cure your cigarette habit; it is also about creating healthy habits that you can follow. This includes things such as eating fruit, drinking water and exercising instead of reaching for the lollies. If you choose to replace cigarettes with junk food you will gain weight, but we are here to help you avoid that.

If you would like to quit cigarettes, contact Tim Thornton to schedule an appointment or find out more.
